Sustainable coffee farms not only provide us with ethically-sourced beans, but they also help to combat climate change, preserve vital ecosystems, boost local economies, and protect workers’ rights. In Costa Rica, they collaborated with EARTH University to implement a pilot program called the Coffee Farmer Resilience Initiative. The agenda was to assist farmers in adapting to and combating climate change effects. It resulted in training small-scale farmers in sustainable farming practices and the introduction of a drought-resistant crop: beans. 5. Starbucks
Starbucks is an industry giant that has recently pledged its commitment to sustainability. According to their 2020 Global Social Impact Report, 99% of their coffee is ethically sourced and accredited by Conservation International under Starbucks C.A.F.E. Practice’s guidelines.
These guidelines mean that all sourced beans must meet a specific sustainability threshold. This includes parameters such as water conservation, energy conservation, waste reduction efforts, and fair treatment of workers.
